It has been six years since singer and composer Eric Paslay released his first full-length debut album. The release of the album earned him the gold-certified breakthrough single “Friday Night” and “Songs About Girls” and “She” Don’t Love You.
Paslay turned a college music publishing intern into a full-fledged songwriter, and later signed a contract with EMI Records (EMI), and soon established his reputation as an ace singer. He used Jake Owens’s ” “Eli Young” (Eli Young)’s single “Even if it breaks your heart”, “Angel Eyes” of Love and Theft and “Rewind” by Rascal Flatts, as well as his own singles. In 2016, he was nominated for a Grammy Award for his solo song “The Driver” by Charles Kelley, a member of Lady A. Paslay wrote and sang the song with Kelley and Dierks Bentley.
But then, after another song “Advanced” failed to make it into the top 30 of the country radio list, Pasley’s career seemed to stagnate. Plans for a follow-up album were shelved; he parted ways with EMI in 2018..
Despite this, Paslay still writes, sings, and keeps moving forward. Last year, he signed a distribution agreement with Big Machine Music.
Then came a punch or two: On March 3, a tornado damaged the part of the house that Pasley shared with his wife Natalie and daughter Piper. Soon after, Paslay participated in a European tour, but had to shorten the schedule. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the work stoppage began, he returned to Nashville.
Like many people, Pasley learned the hub. During the suspension of the tour, he continued to plan to release some long-awaited new music, and released his full-length album “Nice Guy” on August 14 through his Paso Fino Records.
Earlier this year, Nice Guy’s twelve tracks were expanded on his Heartbeat Higher EP, including four tracks from the project and eight new songs. Paslay produced this album with Reid F. Shippen and Tofer Brown and recorded it at Sound Emporium in Nashville.
“I have worked as a record engineer with Reid Shippen. My first album was created by myself and I like its creativeness. But I am also very smart and can realize that the ears in town are so good Unbelievable, and Reid Shippen is almost the best ear in the world, can both capture music and mix his way of playing. It feels like a real album. For 80% of the album , We don’t even have a clicking sound, so it might speed up, or might slow it down a bit,” Paslay said.
The project features the first love song included in the album: “Heartbeat Higher”, one of which was sung by the co-author Sarah Buxton.
“I’m like,” How come we never release a love song? In all the singles, why not have a love song? “It feels so good to have free music, and it feels so good that I am totally free to invite people I want. Sarah Buxton is one of the best. Actually. She just sang the vocals on the spot. We did not go back to the recording studio to modify the vocals. It was live and real. It was very interesting. I love her to death.
“Heartbeat Higher” (about half of the album) has been languishing on the shelves of Paslay’s previous record house.
These songs have been waiting, waiting to be heard. Some of them have been recorded in four and five different ways. I didn’t control that clock, now I can. ”
He is now a freelance agent. He said that his new album “Nice Guy” is the “hottest” song, full of some of his favorite songs composed over the years since his debut, and Mike Posner’s voice performance. The 2015 EDM hit single “I Toza A Pill In Ibiza”. This song marks the first foreign song Paslay has included in the project.
He said: “I think this is a heartbreaking song written by Mike Posner. I want to tilt this hat to a broken heart and be obscured by a bunch of EDM music.”
“Before I owned Piper, I just dreamed of becoming a musician. If one day, you want to write a song for your child, I am glad that “Fingertips” is the first one I want to say is really written for Piper of.”
People with the words “good guys” laughed at the last good man, while the “woman like her” created by Charles Kelly and Laura Welts paid tribute to lasting love.
“This song may be two or three years old,” Pasley said. “We wandered around in Charles’s house and the idea came up. This is just a sweet song, and I know that it really attracted a lot of things from Natalie to me, although not every line is completely autobiographical. I need more than her She. She’s just a good woman. We got married five years ago. To be honest, I didn’t really date anyone until she. I was so downhearted just to build a career that I just thought I didn’t have time to really find someone. , Or I don’t have enough money to really own a family, it’s really amazing to bring her into my world.
Like most artists, Paslay is away from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but touring is a professional setback for most artists, but Paslay is always looking for a front line Hope and taste time with his wife and their 1.5 times old daughter.
“It was a wonderful time for my little girl and my wife. It was great to be with her for so much time, just to watch her grow up and become a full-time father.”
He also focuses on releasing future music, relying to a large extent on Zoom for co-writing, which creates new opportunities for people.
“I just wrote a song with a Korean K-pop singer. It opened up amazing new ways to communicate with people at any time of the day, anywhere. We always start with a bad joke, like “This Isn’t it ta corona song? “By the time people hear this sentence, it may be two years from now.
At the same time, he hopes that this local design project can bring hope for other dreamers to pursue their musical passion.
“This is amazing for music and for people who do have dreams that don’t need a million dollars to realize their dreams. They can actually record it in their bedroom and they can win many Grammy Awards. So It’s a cool thing for all these kids and all adults, all dreamers who want to make music and want to be heard by people.”
