The added weight of solar energy often exceeds the physical limits of membrane roofs, Roll-A-Rack said.To address this, the company developed a 12-inch metal channel rack that spreads over the existing rooftop ballast while holding the solar panels in place.
Frames can be as thin as 22 gauge and are roll formed.Roll-A-Rack says it supports a snow load of 50 psf and a wind lift of 37.5 psf.The company says automated installation is possible for its products.
Roll-A-Rack said it was working to bring in developers or installers to test the product.The first 100 kW racks will be provided free of charge.The company also said it will conduct a wind lift analysis to determine ballast requirements.
